If anyone else is wondering what the heck happened to this in AX4.0… you aren’t alone.   For the longest time I thought I was just missing it, that it had somehow been moved and I just couldn’t find the location.

Most of the tests like 1Y0-456 and EX0-101 were hard to clear since no data was available. With test king, this material can be bought individually as well as in group with 642-845 and 642-825 series.

Well I did some asking around – I wasn’t alone in missing it.  It is extremely (in 3.0) handy in tracing out those table relationships when troubleshooting issues.  I do not have an official or definitive answer, however I do have some information.  My understanding is that it has temporarily been stripped out of AX.  Something much better is being worked on… so it is really not there now.  (Not just hidden.)  The good news is that something will be coming back.  I haven’t heard when or what form it will be in, but I was happy to hear that.  (Perhaps AX5.0?)

Microsoft BI Conference Report 2

Hey all – the conference is going quite well here in Seattle.

Naturally I have been watching for AX specific solutions. What will impact our software – what is here that can help our solution.

There have been a number of neat things… some I found to be far above and beyond what I would want to try and tell a client they need. (It really of course depends on the clients Business Intelligence needs of course. So it is good to see what else is out there and have the whitepapers for those solutions.)

The short list of things that stick out in my mind:

1) MS PerformancePoint 2007 Demo

2) MS Office SharePoint 2007 Demo

3) MS SQL server versions will no longer take 5 years. Announced today that it will be the 24-36 month cycle. MS SQL Server Code name “Katmai” is slated for 2008.

4) Business Objects – Crystal Xcelsius… great people at the booth and was one of the things that stuck out in my mind the most. (Flash in pdf is just neat… and neat is what clients can like when simple for them to do the “neat” stuff too.)

Well that is the short list. There are a number of other vendors, booths, and BI solutions here. I stopped the list at the 4 top things that came to mind, because if I didn’t, I would miss the next breakout session due to the post being 3 pages long! :)

Live from Microsoft BI Conference

Hey everyone – I am currently attending the Microsoft Business Intelligence Conference here in Seattle. The conference is just having its first general session this morning, so not a whole lot to report yet.

However we have already seen a few brief demo’s on the screen of some pretty nifty stuff. There are a number of solutions that look extremely interesting when added on top of something. (Like AX in our case.)

I will keep everyone updated of what neat stuff I see here, and where you can find more info on it.

Another tidbit from Helmut – AX4.1=AX5.0?

I am still getting caught up on all of my reading, much less trying to get caught up on making posts myself, but I would have thought this one would have caught my eye quicker.

Dynamics AX 4.1 renamed to Dynamics AX 5.0

I’ve just read on the UK partner website that AX 4.1 will be renamed to AX 5.0. The scheduled release date is Q1/2008 (well it says 2008 but I’ve read somewhere that it could be released in Q1). There should be more info on Partnersource, but I don’t have access to that.
Link: https://partner.microsoft.com/UK/40032627

I remember seeing some stuff about the AX5.0 TAP (Partner testing basically), but had thought AX4.1 was still coming out. I will have to do some more looking around PartnerSource and ask around to see if this is true or not.

Thanks for the info Helmut!

Send message to online user in Dynamics AX 4.0 (quick & dirty)

Here is another blog post that I found really interesting.  Sending messages within AX4.0 is something I have looked at as well, but Helmut did a bit more looking that I did.

I am missing the functionality to send messages to online users that existed in Axapta 3.0 and is now gone. Well, I thought you could use the “Alert” functionality introduced in DAX 4.0.
What to do:

Head over and take a look at the original (and full) post!

Dynamics AX University

Hey all – once again sorry about the lack of updates. I have been attending 2 three week classes over in DC.

The Dynamics AX University classes have gone really well. I have attended the 4.0 Financials and the 4.0 Trade & Logistics classes. Actually, finishing the second one this week. After this I will be on project work (consulting services), but will be able to hold a much more normal schedule – and of course that will mean more posting for everyone!

A cheap web hosting is a great deal if you get the domain names of your choice as well as the web design template. One reliable hosting is that of anhosting.

A company called HSO has been putting on the training and they have done an excellent job. I will have links available for everyone as soon as I track those down again.

Missing posts (AX4.0 to 4.0SP1 Upgrade Whitepaper and review)

Well I have discovered this week that two posts I thought I had… I don’t.

So first – here is a link to the 4.0 to 4.0SP1 Upgrade Whitepaper. I apparently never posted the working link. It should be the same as the one in the SP1 documentation, but I know for sure this PartnerSource link works.

I am also missing the review of Arijit’s AX blog. I will write that tomorrow and have it up. It is one of the blogs I make sure to always check in on… so wow thought I had it. Well that will be corrected!
