Put away the Defibrillator, the Microsoft Dynamics Community Site Has Pulled Through

Go directly to Source

Almost exactly three years ago I posted and article on my website suggesting that Microsoft’s Dynamics Live site was on life support and desperately in need of a defibrillator. The post has been stubbornly stuck as one of the most viewed posts on the website. Well, I’m happy to report that you can put away your defibrillator, the patient is just fine.

For a while "Dynamics Live" – re-branded as the Dynamics Community – was in a rut. The site was full of general finance and accounting articles that had nothing to do with Dynamics GP.  There was no special content to distinguish it from the mass of other finance and accounting news sites. The team assured me that things would improve and slowly they did.

First the site got some new branding. It’s no…

Object Server 01: Internal Error occured executing stored procedure when creating session for the AOS

Go directly to Source
We were getting this error when trying to start the AOS Service after we restored an AX Database from one of our existing environments:

Error : Object Server 01: Internal Error occured executing stored procedure when creating session for the AOS

By seeing this error, I was quickly able to conclude that it has to do something related to the stored procedures which creates server sessions and client sessions, I compared the permissions of the sp’s with our other AX databases and found that the aos service account didn’t have “Execute” permissions on these 2 sp’s and hence the errors, After assigning the permissions, we could start the service without any hiccups
I had a similar experience troubleshooting these stored procedures in the past which has been blogged http://daxdilip.blogspot.com/2009/02/sysserversessions-and-sysclientsessions.html

Microsoft Dynamics Partner Gut Check: Upcoming Certification Changes Realign VAR Ecosystem (Part 2)

Go directly to Source

With the upcoming changes to the Microsoft Dynamics Partner organization beginning in October 2010, Microsoft will require its ERP and CRM partners to become more industry focused, more scaled up, and better able to tell the full story of an integrated solution.

Microsoft Partners’ opinions on the new requirements are mixed, and not all based on the organization’s size. And a number of opinions are given to MSDynamicsWorld.com only without attribution, reflecting the sensitivity of partners to the coming marketplace changes.

"What Microsoft is doing impacts the small consultancy firms," said one Microsoft partner, who asked not to be identified. "This whole approach of verticalizing partners is going to do away with what we know as Lifestyle p…

Microsoft Dynamics Partner Gut Check: Upcoming Certification Changes Realign VAR Ecosystem (Part 1)

Go directly to Source

When it comes to how Microsoft Dynamics ERP and CRM partners relate to users, important changes are in the making, forcing increasingly intense competition among partners and more stringent standards by Microsoft.

Beginning at the end of October 2010, Microsoft will require its ERP and CRM partners to become more industry focused, more scaled up, and better able to tell the full story of an integrated solution.

"We’re aligning our partner program to what the customers want to see," said Jeff Edwards, Director of Channel Strategy, Microsoft Business Solutions.

Edwards said one of the main complaints from customers was that too many partners qualified for Gold Partner status, making it impossible for one partner to differentiate itself f…

A Dynamics AX 2009 Upgrade Gives One Customer a Chance to Drop Old Customizations

Go directly to Source

If you’re thinking about grading to Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009, it always helps to hear from someone who’s already been through it.

Earlier this week, one Dynamics AX customer shared his experiences upgrading to the latest version of the software during a webinar hosted by the AX User Group (AXUG).

The customer, a major industrial manufacturer in the U.S., is currently running AX 2009 out of a single data center for 2,000 users-about 525 concurrent users every day, scattered around the country.

The company, which is made up of a number of different business, purchased AX in 2000 and went live in 2001. Since then it’s been through a variety of upgrades. In fact, during the initial implementation the company upgraded fr…

During Oracle OpenWorld, Microsoft Exec Suggests an Alternative to Fusion Applications

Go directly to Source

Michael
Park, Corporate Vice President for Microsoft Business Solutions, had some
things he wanted Oracle customers to think about at Oracle’s
OpenWorld conference as they learned more about the company’s Fusion Applications.

In a blog
post
, Park said he was struck by how often companies chose Microsoft Dynamics
products after considering solutions from Oracle. And he said if he were
attending the conference there were a few questions he’d want answered
including:

How to install AX Debugger without actually running the setup :-)

Go directly to Source
For troubleshooting one of our interface, I had to run the AX Debugger from AOS Server. And, on our DEV AOS Server, I didn’t have the AX install/setup files.

So, I just tried to give this quick workaround a shot hoping that it works and it actually worked!

Copy the “AxDebug.exe” from my local box “C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics AX\50\Client\Bin”
and just paste it in the path on the AOS box where client is installed and this did the trick!

No need to go through the boring installation, Quick and easy :-)

The Agile Sure Step Project Type: New Options for Implementing Microsoft Dynamics

Go directly to Source

For ages, consultants have delivered ERP projects in
waterfall fashion, and to be honest, they didn’t fare too well as far as
project success was concerned. Budget overruns, missed schedules, scope creep
or scope reductions – these have been more of a norm than an exception. And
even though agile methodologies were gaining momentum, and getting accolades,
the ERP world still preferred the thunder of the big-bang waterfall approach.

In its latest release, by offering support for the agile
project type, Sure Step has made a giant leap into the realm of agile project
methodologies. While Sure Step does not
yet fulfill all the ideals of agile methodology, many of the building blocks
are now in place to bring positive change to many Dynamics ERP projects.
