Happy Holidays!

I hope everyone is having a great holiday season.

Being in and out of town for the holidays has slowed the updates down a little bit here, but don’t worry, more is coming.  The new year will be great for everyone and thanks for continuing to support this site.

Best wishes!
~Jake

AX4.0 SP1 Demo Data up

The AX4.0 SP1 Demo data is now up on PartnerSource.

There is the demo data set and now a “training data” set. I am currently creating a VPC image with SP1, so I will be testing both of these data sets out in the next day or so.

These are fresh data sets and different from prior data sets from AX3.0 and AX4.0. I believe its primarily corrections and additions due to changes in the software.

Using XML Web Services to Communicate with Microsoft Axapta

An older article, but written by one of the best.  (Bill from MBS.)

If you are wondering how to get Visual Studio and AX working together, read this first and then go from there with more updated material.  (If any is available… haven’t found any yet.)

Rapid Config tool for AX4.0 (Updated for SP1)

If you implement AX – this is a must check out item.  The Rapid Configuration Tool (RCT.)

What is the Rapid Configuration Tool?

The Rapid Configuration Tool (RCT) for Microsoft Dynamics AX 4.0 is a tool that supports both partners and customers in the implementation and configuration process by providing and linking project management features, easier configuration access, communication support and documentation on how to configure Microsoft Dynamics AX. The Rapid Configuration Tool consists of functionality implemented as a module within Microsoft Dynamics AX.

You can obtain the toolkit, and the recently updated version for 4.0SP1 from PartnerSource.

MBS Community Page

This is another great list of AX resources and ways to be a part of the community.  Some of their links are to sites that are not updated often, but it is worth checking out.

I have filled out the app to get this site included on the list, but congrats can go out to Arijit over at DAXGuy for getting his site added to the list!

MBS ERP Product Overview (Chart)

One of the questions I get about Dynamics AX is, how goes it compare to {Insert product name here}.

Most often though, people have trouble understanding the differences between the MBS products.  Well, it is confusing to everyone.  Here is a chart I found a long time ago that is still relevant now. Some of the facts and figures might be slightly outdated, but the comparison is accurate.

It also lists the competing products for each of MBS’s products.

New tagline

Well everyone – as you might have noticed by now… we have a new tagline at AXS.

“The fastest growing AX Info place!”

That is all thanks to you guys.  It is hard to give 100% accurately stats on that of course, but seeing as this site has only been around for a couple of weeks, but I put up a new page for those interested in following the sites growth.

Here is a permalink to the Page View comparisons.  I created a static page for that link as well.
Site compared against other major AX domains: AxaptsSource.com; DynamicsCareers.com; AxaptaCentral.com; and Axapta-Links.com.

So once again – thanks for visiting this site.  I will of course continue on my mission of providing regular posts, useful information, and contributing to the AX community.

Airport Wireless Guide

Ok, so it is not specifically AX related, but for those on the consulting site of things, you can see the use.

Here is the Airport Wireless Internet Access Guide.

Going to be having a layover for a while – check this first.

It has a list of Airports, what providers, if there is net access in the clubs, etc. I wish I had found the site a while ago!

AX Group – Microsoft Public Axapta

This is actually a Usenet group, so there isn’t a specific “site” to visit this group.

Microsoft’s Page

Google Groups – My method

A newsreader – There are a few of them out there.

This is a well trafficked newsgroup.

AXS Review:

Usefulness: 5

Design: 5-NA

Return Potential: 5
Site Rating: 15

I find the newsgroup extremely useful, so it gets a top ranking. However, there is some variability in that depending on how you access it. Really, whatever your preferred method is works. I would recommend against using the MS web reader. I have had problems with it every single time I have tried to reply to a post from there. The google group however interfaces really nice with it and works great. (The aesthetic appeal is there too.)

Check it out!

Axapta Developers Guide

Here is the AX Developer guide from MSDN.  There is also a few other useful pages here – the Dynamics Admin library reference is another one worth checking.

Everyone who has access to computers and internet is getting domain name registration. Now web hosting has become really common. However, this had markedly reduced the availability of dedicated hosting like that provided by netfirms.

Some of reference material is available elsewhere, but is worth checking out in case you haven’t seen it before.
